This Driving Tour in Italy Begins in the Eternal City of Rome, Includes Siena, the Chianti Region, the Two Picturesque Etruscan Settlements of San Gimignano and Volterra, Pisa, the Marble Quarry in Carrara, the Colourful Cinque Terre, and Ends in the Beautiful City of Florence
Day 1: Rome (overnight in Rome)
Make your way from the Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport to your 4-star Hotel in Rome. Enjoy free time, and have dinner at your hotel or at any one of the many excellent local restaurants during your peaceful first hours in Italy.

Day 2: Rome (overnight in Rome)
After a pleasant breakfast at your hotel your adventures in the city will begin. Whether by guided tour or on your own, visit Vatican City, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Walk through the Vatican Museums and admire important art pieces dating from the Egyptian Age to the late Renaissance. Later take in the archaeological sites of ancient Rome – the Coliseum, the Forum, and more.

Day 3: Siena - Chianti Region (overnight in the Chianti Region) (daily distance 165 km)
Journey to Siena in Tuscany where you can tour the city, including the site of “Il Palio di Siena” (the well-known horse race that is held twice each year in the Piazza del Campo, the main public square of the city), and Siena Cathedral, an art piece with its own personality. After a bit of leisure time, travel through the enchantingly hilly Tuscan countryside to the Chianti region and maybe have a wine tasting at Castello di Vicchiomaggio. Salute!!

Day 4: San Gimignano - Volterra (overnight on the Versilia Coast) (daily distance 165 km)
Awake in the sunny colourful land where the production of wine and olive oil is art. We suggest a stop at the ancient Etruscan settlement of San Gimignano; enjoy its “Manhattan skyline”! Take some free time to walk the streets and alleyways, and maybe buy a fine wine. Then to Volterra, famous for its alabaster, and from where you will be able to admire the vast Tuscan countryside!

Day 5: Pisa - Carrara Marble Quarries (overnight in Sestri Levante/Rapallo) (daily distance 170 km)
Breakfast first, and then to Pisa to see the Cathedral, the Baptistery, and the famous Leaning Tower. Enjoy the views from the foothills of the Apuan Alps and explore the white-marble quarries in Carrara from where Michelangelo took his sculpting block for the “Pietà”. Maybe you’ll have time to taste another of the treasures of this area if you visit a “larderia” where ancient family recipes are used to produce “Lardo di Colonnata”, a world-renowned delicacy that was at one time considered only fit to feed the poor. Again, we can organize tours and visits for you at your request.

Day 6: Cinque Terre (overnight in Sestri Levante/Rapallo)
This will be an exciting day as you visit Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a picturesque coastline and colourful seaside villages. You can park your car and take a train from Levanto to Riomaggiore. Then hike, go by train, or travel by boat to Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare, before returning by train to Levanto. Find a restaurant along the way where you can enjoy the local fish and seafood dishes!

X-Large Travel Tip: Driving in the Cinque Terre (and parking in particular!) can be extremely challenging because of the confined spaces. Therefore, we recommend using the train services that provide excellent access this very special region of Italy.
Day 7: Sestri Levante/Rapallo – Florence (overnight in Florence) (daily distance 210 km)
After breakfast at the hotel, travel the artistic city of Florence where you can explore its monuments, buildings and museums. Enjoy your time in the Capital of the Renaissance! The Cathedral and Bell Tower, the Baptistery, the Piazza Santa Maria Novella, the Palazzo Vecchio and the Ponte Vecchio are just a taste of this city’s countless cultural offerings.

Day 8: Homeward Bound
Try to enjoy this, your last day in romantic Italy. Take time over breakfast and maybe have a relaxing goodbye walk through the city. If you wish, a transfer can be organized to take you from your hotel to Florence Airport (Peretola) from where you’ll start your journey home. But don’t worry! You’ll be back.
